You have heard that it was said, 'You shall not commit adultery;'                but I tell you that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart.                If your right eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out and throw it away from you. For it is more profitable for you that one of your members should perish, than for your whole body to be cast into Gehenna.                If your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off, and throw it away from you. For it is more profitable for you that one of your members should perish, than for your whole body to be cast into Gehenna.                'It was also said, 'Whoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorce,'                but I tell you that whoever puts away his wife, except for the cause of sexual immorality, makes her an adulteress; and whoever marries her when she is put away commits adultery.                'Again you have heard that it was said to them of old time, 'You shall not make false vows, but shall perform to the Lord your vows,'                but I tell you, don't swear at all: neither by heaven, for it is the throne of God;                nor by the earth, for it is the footstool of his feet; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King.                Neither shall you swear by your head, for you can't make one hair white or black.                But let your 'Yes' be 'Yes' and your 'No' be 'No.' Whatever is more than these is of the evil one.                'You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.'*                But I tell you, don't resist him who is evil; but whoever strikes you on your right cheek, turn to him the other also.                If anyone sues you to take away your coat, let him have your cloak also.                Whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two.                Give to him who asks you, and don't turn away him who desires to borrow from you.                'You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor,* and hate your enemy.*'                But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you,                that you may be children of your Father who is in heaven.

Jesus, I trust You!

“The sinners will receive justification, and the righteous will be confirmed in good. Whoever placed his trust in My mercy, I will fill his soul with the divine peace at the hour of death.” (Diary 1520).

Jesus, I trust You!

I have opened my heart as a living source of mercy, may all souls draw life from it, let them approach this sea of mercy with great trust. The sinners will receive justification, and the righteous will be confirmed in good. Whoever placed his trust in My mercy, I will fill their soul with the divine peace at the hour of death.” (Diary 1520)

This was the promise the Lord Jesus gave to St Faustina. It encourages us to place unlimited trust in His mercy. It underlines that praying the Chaplet of Divine Mercy is very useful to that end. It also reminds us of the special grace that can flow even to the most hardened sinners in their hour of death who have recourse to this special prayer: “Recite constantly the chaplet which I have taught you. Whoever recites it, they will receive great mercy at the hour of death. Priests will give it to sinners as a last resort; even if there were a sinner most hardened, if they only say this chaplet even once, they will receive grace from My infinite mercy. I want the whole world to learn about My mercy. I desire to grant unimaginable graces to the souls who trust in My mercy.” (Diary 687)

John Paul II emphasised that the graces we can ask for when praying the Chaplet of Divine Mercy are inexhaustible. He encouraged us to use this prayer with confidence in seemingly hopeless situations with no way out

Jesus assures us of the vastness of the graces which we can experience through His mercy. He says that even if sins overwhelm us, when we trust Him and “throw ourselves into his arms”, we will receive consolation and forgiveness of our sins. It is especially important to call on His mercy in the hour of death. He promised that if we do so, He himself will be the advocate for those souls with God: “My daughter, encourage souls to say the chaplet which I have given you. When they say this chaplet, I will be pleased to grant everything they ask of Me. When hardened sinners recite it, I will fill their souls with peace, and the hour of their death will be a happy one. Write it down for the distressed souls; when souls see and learn the severity of their sins, when the whole abyss of misery in which they had plunged is revealed before the souls’ eyes, let them not despair, but with trust throw themselves into the arms of My mercy, as a child into the beloved mother’s arms. These souls have priority to My compassionate heart, they have priority to My mercy. Tell them that no soul that has called upon My mercy has been disappointed or brought to shame. I delight particularly in a soul that trusts in My goodness. Write it down: When this chaplet is prayed at the dying people, I will stand between My Father and the dying soul, not as the just Judge but as the merciful Saviour” (Diary 1541); “The soul that trusts in My mercy is most fortunate, because I Myself take care of it.” (Diary 1273)

John Paul II emphasised that the graces we can ask for when praying the Chaplet of Divine Mercy are inexhaustible. He encouraged us to use this prayer with confidence in seemingly hopeless situations with no way out. It is important, therefore, that we do not close ourselves to God, but wholeheartedly trust in His mercy, saying: “Jesus, I trust in You!”, because then the Lord Jesus will take care of us.
