By LOA Editorial Office, “Let marriage be held in honour by all, and let the marriage bed be kept undefiled; for God will judge fornicators and adulterers.” (Heb 13:4) Let us note that the author of the letter to the Hebrews does not start from the point that God’s judgment awaits the promiscuous and adulterers, but rather from the point that marriage deserves honour and respect, and the marriage bed should be pure and undefiled. We live in times when people willingly choose other gods for themselves, promising the easy attainment of pleasure. They think up successive ideologies for themselves, falsely justifying unlimited sex and the pursuit of money. They seemingly succeed in getting what they want, but at what price? They give up true, lasting marital happiness. God created mankind as man and woman for them to be together, for them to be mutual support for each other in difficult times, and so that they could share joy and love. The love of a husband and wife is so deeply unifying that Pope Benedict XVI called it an icon of the Holy Trinity: “The first witnesses of Christ’s birth, the shepherds, found themselves not only before the Infant Jesus but also a small family: mother, father and newborn son. God had chosen to reveal himself by being born into a human family and the human family thus became an icon of God! God is the Trinity, he is a communion of love; so is the family, despite all the differences that exist between the Mystery of God and his human creature, an expression that reflects the unfathomable Mystery of God as Love. In marriage, the man and the woman, created in God’s image, become ‘one flesh’ (Gen 2: 24), that is a communion of love that generates new life. The human family, in a certain sense, is an icon of the Trinity, because of its interpersonal love and the fruitfulness of this love.” (from a speech on 27 December 2009). God wanted this holy and pure love to bring children into the world, loved and accepted, and with whom the parents would share their time and concern. This is no utopian ideal; it is normalcy which God foresaw for mankind. If we act differently, our actions are abnormal. It is worthwhile struggling for normalcy: for unconditional love, for fertility, for unity. Inevitably, this unity of human beings comes only through unity with God, in a life that is “quiet and peaceable … in all godliness and dignity” (1 Tim 2:2). God realizes that married life isn’t easy and simple, and that it doesn’t fall into harmonious order by itself. That is yet another reason why Jesus decided to give His life for us, in order to make it possible for us to return to the Father through the Holy Spirit. Thanks to His power, we can rebuild what our forebears destroyed through sin and what we destroy systematically by turning away from God and following false teachers, sin and addiction. “The human family, in a certain sense, is an icon of the Trinity, because of its interpersonal love and the fruitfulness of this love” It is necessary to learn to exist for the other person. Only then will we find the harmony which we call happiness It is not enough simply to restrain from adultery. Nor is it sufficient to obey divine laws. In order to build marital ties, it is necessary to put a certain effort into mutually getting to know one another, and that isn’t possible without personal contact with Christ in daily prayer and in the sacraments of reconciliation and the Eucharist. It is necessary to make the effort and to understand your spouse, listen to what he or she has to say, and help him or her solve his or her problems. It is necessary to learn to exist for the other person. Only then will we find the harmony which we call happiness, where there is no place for licentiousness, betrayal or deception. We encourage you to make the effort to stand by each other, for each to teach the other about him/herself, and to understand each other. Sometimes there are no couples among us who make this effort, and that is why we encourage couples to join the Movement of Pure Hearts for Married Couples. Thanks to the Movement, we continue with the knowledge that we are not alone on this path, that other couples overcome these same problems and pray for us and that we can support others through our prayer and our witness. Mirosław Rucki MPHMC Prayer of entrustmentLord Jesus, thank you that You have loved us with a limitless love, not even hesitating to give your life for us. Thank you that your love protects us from evil, it raises us from the greatest falls and heals the most painful of wounds. Thank you for your presence in the sacrament of marriage and that You always find a cure for every evil, and the strength to overcome all difficulties and crises. We give you our memories, intellects, wills, souls and bodies with their sexuality. We promise to meet You daily in family prayer and Scripture reading, in frequent reception of Holy Communion and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. We decide to regularly approach the sacrament of reconciliation, not be discouraged and immediately rise from every sin. We decide not to buy, read or watch any pornographic magazines, programs or films. We promise not to use any contraception and give up the contraceptive attitude. We promise to always be ready to receive any child that You, Lord, wish to call into being. We want to be good teachers for him or her, to show them the way to You through our attitude and testimony. Lord Jesus, teach us to work systematically on ourselves, to be able to control sexual impulses and emotions. We ask you for the courage in daily opposition to evil, so that we avoid anything that is addictive and enslaving, most of all drugs, alcohol and nicotine. Teach us to act in such a way that the most important thing in our life is love. Mary, our Mother, lead us on the ways of faith to the very source of love – to Jesus. Following St John Paul II we want to completely entrust ourselves to you: “Totus Tuus, Mary!”. In your Immaculate Heart we give our whole selves, everything we are, every step, every moment of our lives. Amen. In order to join the MPHMC, it is sufficient to desire to go through life with Jesus, to whom we entrust the role of the Head of the Family. Together with your spouse, go to confession. Also, after receiving Holy Communion, say the prayer of devotion of the MPHMC. We request that you inform the editors of your joining the MPHMC, sending us your address, dates of birth and date of joining the MPHMC. We will then write your names into the Book of Pure Hearts and send you a special blessing.
