Author: ks. Mieczysław Piotrowski TChr, It is the fundamental task and duty of every man and woman to discover the truth. Jesus enlightens us only when we come to recognize the truth. It is the truth that sets us free (cf. Jn 8: 32). Without truth there is no freedom, but enslavement. The organs of the mass media — radio, press, TV, Internet — have the great mission of serving the truth, seeking it, and making it known to the public. In his homily of June 6, 1991, Pope John Paul II cautioned the members of the media against being drawn into the service of falsehood. He appealed to them to take special responsibility for their words, for these ought to testify to the truth and express concern and love for mankind. Alas, all too often the communications media are engaged in a concerted distortion of the truth about the human person, about God, the Church, and her teachings. The legalized killing of unborn children, euthanasia, divorce, contraception, homosexual unions, in vitro fertilization, marital infidelity, de facto marriages, etc. are so speciously presented by the media as to create the impression that their acceptance represents a good and a sign of progress. All this is one great deception by the powers of evil. John Paul II warned: “The communications media can become a means of violence, if there stands behind them another violence, which need not be physical. Another kind of violence. Another kind of power....That is the outlook of our times: between the freedom, which Christ constantly extends to us, and rejection of Christ” (June 6, 1991). To live the truth means to enjoy a personal relationship with Christ through daily prayer, reception of the sacraments of penance and the Eucharist, and living out His teachings. Jesus said: “If you remain in my word, you will truly be my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (Jn 8: 31b-32). Let us not allow ourselves to be enslaved by the lies artfully prepared by the enemies of man, Christ, and the Church. Dear readers, please promote Love One Another Magazine in your neighborhoods. Help us in our mission to make the truth of the Gospel known to the greatest number of souls. Thank you for supporting us with your prayers and contributions to our publishing fund. Every day we offer up a rosary and chaplet of divine mercy for your intentions, and once a week a Holy Mass for the same intentions. Our warmest regards and blessings to you all. Fr.
