Don't be anxious for your life, what you will eat, nor yet for your body, what you will wear.                Life is more than food, and the body is more than clothing.                Consider the ravens: they don't sow, they don't reap, they have no warehouse or barn, and God feeds them. How much more valuable are you than birds!                Which of you by being anxious can add a cubit to his height?                If then you aren't able to do even the least things, why are you anxious about the rest?                Consider the lilies, how they grow. They don't toil, neither do they spin; yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.                But if this is how God clothes the grass in the field, which today exists, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith?                Don't seek what you will eat or what you will drink; neither be anxious.                For the nations of the world seek after all of these things, but your Father knows that you need these things.                But seek God's Kingdom, and all these things will be added to you.

Love One Another!

I was overjoyed to hear I was pregnant again. But in my eighth week, I found myself in hospital with a suspected miscarriage. After two weeks I was discharged only to land back in hospital a week later with another incidence of hemorrhaging. Another false alarm!

In the meantime, I underwent a series of tests, including an ultrasound. After one of these, the doctor recommended I have a D&C, since the pregnancy was weak and not progressing well. “You’re going to slough it off anyway,” he told me. When I asked him what the matter was, he could not give me a clear answer. On taking my leave, I heard him say, “Don’t have anything for breakfast tomorrow.” I did not listen to him. What’s more, from that morning on, I began saying the chaplet of Divine Mercy. It and the rosary have been my companions ever since. I confided our child to the care of the Merciful Jesus. I also prayed for the intercession of John Paul II and Padre Pio. My reward for this was another ultrasound carried out by a different doctor, who showed and allowed me to hear just how strongly and wonderfully the child’s heart was beating.

Six weeks later I was back in hospital with a serious urinary tract infection. Over the next two months I underwent six antibiotic treatments. Alas, the round of treatments ended with my water breaking early and a premature birth in the twenty-ninth week of pregnancy. Our little girl suffers from a number of defective organs, including an enlarged spleen and liver and congenitally diseased lungs. She also faces retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) and other disorders.

It is only thanks to Jesus that, after a long period of uncertainty, we were able to bring our daughter home from hospital. A longer journey now lies before us — toward our child’s full recovery, which we trust Jesus will bring about.

Our experience has taught me that you can never lose hope, for the power of Divine Mercy is unfathomable.
