A Prayer Crusade for Marriages at Risk Faced with the scourge of divorce afflicting modern society, the current crisis of spousal relations, and the ever-increasing number of couples contemplating the destruction of their indissoluble union, we raise our voice to God in a loud cry for His Divine help. The war on marriage and the family is now being waged with an intensity and on a scale never before seen. Six months before his death, John Paul II described the situation very clearly: “Alas, the attacks on marriage and the family are growing stronger and more radical every day, both on the ideological and legislative fronts” (Speech to delegates of the Forum of Family Associations, December 18, 2004). Left to their own devices, a husband and wife cannot hope to defend themselves against the power that seeks to destroy their union. We cannot forget that the real force behind all threats to our relations with God and one another is the Evil One. Against the power of Satan we stand almost totally defenseless. What we need then is to call unceasingly upon God for His protection, strength, and help in keeping us from every danger and temptation. All the more necessary is God’s help to those couples who have begun to lose strength, who find themselves sinking, and in whose minds the unthinkable option of divorce is already germinating. We have decided to launch a prayer crusade very much like the Crusade for Unborn Children. We propose that people commit themselves, be it individually or as married couples, to praying every day for marriages at risk (one mystery of the rosary and the crusade prayer) for a specific period of time (e.g. half a year). In this way, we hope to storm heaven on behalf of those couples and children facing that greatest of tragedies — divorce. Daily Prayer for Marriages at Risk “Beloved Father, by instituting the sacrament of marriage you desired to provide us with the most effective means of fulfilling the Commandment of Love. Your Son Jesus Christ began to preach his message of salvation by offering support to the married couple and their friends at the wedding feast of Cana. Mary was also present; indeed, she was the first to notice the threat to the well-being of this young marriage. Therefore, I beseech you, dear Father, Jesus, and Mary, save all families in danger of marital breakdown, regardless of the cause. Grant the marriage(s), for which I now pray, the miracle of changing evil into good, cold-heartedness into warmth, harshness into a gentleness, unpleasant words into tender ones, distance into intimacy, sadness into joy, indifference into longing. Grant them and their children the gift of seeing Your glory and being able to believe in You again. Amen” Editors The above article was published with permission from Miłujcie się! in November 2010
